Farming in a Changing Climate

Pakistan is among the countries most exposed to climate change, yet it contributes a very small share of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Our farmers are already living with the consequences. Shifting monsoon timing. Longer heat waves during wheat grain filling. Falling groundwater tables. Flash floods in the barani belt. Pest outbreaks appearing in seasons where they were never seen before.

At the same time, agriculture itself is a significant source of emissions in Pakistan. Methane from flooded rice fields and livestock. Nitrous oxide from over-application of nitrogen fertiliser. Diesel tubewell pumping. And the burning of crop residue that darkens Punjab’s skies every autumn.

Climate-Smart Agriculture is the practical answer to both problems at once. AusAgri applies the internationally recognised three-pillar CSA approach to every farm we work with.

MEASUREMENT AND VERIFICATION

We Measure What We Claim

Climate benefit that is not measured is only marketing.

For every farm and project we work on, AusAgri records baseline and post-intervention data on water applied per acre, fertiliser applied per acre, diesel or electricity used for pumping, residue burnt versus retained, and yield per acre. Soil organic carbon is tracked through laboratory testing and satellite analysis over the seasons.

This data is what allows a farmer to see his own savings. It is also what allows our partners and funders to verify our reported impact.

AusAgri’s work supports Pakistan’s Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement and the objectives of the National Adaptation Plan, particularly in water-use efficiency, sustainable land management and climate-resilient agriculture. We claim no affiliation with any government or international body.
