Agriculture has fed this country for generations. But the way we farm has not kept pace with the pressure now placed on our land and water. Input costs rise every season while yields stay flat. The farmer works harder each year for the same return.

I believe the answer is not more input. It is better information. When a farmer knows what his soil actually contains, when he can see which part of his field is under stress before the damage is visible to the eye, and when he applies fertiliser according to a plan rather than a habit, both his yield and his profit improve at the same time.

Pakistan did little to cause the changing climate. Our farmers are among the first to pay for it. We see it in shifting sowing windows. We see it in wheat that ripens too fast under an early heat wave. We see it in tubewells that must be drilled deeper every few years. This is not a distant problem to be discussed at conferences. It is arriving in our fields now. Our commitment is to make climate-resilient farming practical and affordable, so that adapting is something an ordinary farmer can actually do, not only a large corporate estate.
